Utah Tobacco Prevention and Control Program Orientation

This course supplements the FREE courses from Johns Hopkins which cover the basics of tobacco control, tobacco and health, the tobacco industry, and related topics. Rather than duplicating that content here, we encourage you to complete those courses from John Hopkins first if you haven’t already. They offer important context on the burden of tobacco, the impact of the tobacco industry, health effects, traditional tobacco, and other aspects of commercial tobacco.

This course will focus on Utah-specific resources and infrastructure as part of our comprehensive approach. It is designed for new partners as an onboarding tool, giving basic information to help new hires get oriented in the tobacco prevention and control space. The full course has 5 modules and should take approximately 2 hours to complete. In the training, we look at strategies for preventing tobacco use, supporting individuals in quitting, and carrying out effective, community-led policy approaches. This training equips you to support effective community-based tobacco prevention, cessation, and control efforts across the state.
